There are a lot of evangelical as well as Catholic voters who will not be put off by Murtha's principled stand on the value of human life- in peace or war. The very question of principle on unpopular or seemingly "inconsistent" positions is appealing to many of the electorate: remember Ross Perot. For radical feminists this would be a Faustian bargain they can not accept. Hey, but are they 5%? Why should they define the litmus test? Besides maybe the Catholic Church with 2000 years of moral experience is more savvy of human rights including anti war and anti capital punishment positions thanwe arrogant modernists are?So still he is 74, a bit overweight etc. Modern medicine puts his life expectancy easily over 8 years so let's give him as much of a break as Reagan.
